THE IMPORTANCE OF MICROCHIPPING.
Both cats and dogs should be microchipped.
Millions of dogs and cats become missing each year. Tragically, few are reunited with their owners. Many lost pets end up in shelters where they are adopted out to new homes or even euthanized. It is important that your pets have identification at all times. Collars and tags are good, but they can fall off or become damaged.
Cats can benefit from microchipping, especially if they go outside simply because they are not required to wear collars or tags. Technology has made it possible to equip your pet with a microchip for permanent identification.
If your pet gets lost and is taken to an animal shelter or veterinarian, they will scan the microchip to read its unique dog or cat ID code. This is the number used to identify the pet and retrieve your contact information, which is used to contact you and reunite you with your pet.
v The procedure is performed in our office (no anesthetic is required) and is simple and similar to administering a vaccine.
v The average cost to have a microchip implanted is approximately $45, this does not include registration in a pet recovery database, which is usually a one-time fee of around $18.00.
v A microchip is only the first step! You must register your pet’s microchip for it to be effective.
